Our Mission
To document and make accessible the richness of regional traditions, building a bridge between the past and the present to nurture cultural identity.
It all began with a simple curiosity and a deep desire to understand our roots. In 2018, a small group of researchers passionate about ethnology and oral history laid the foundations for the Yaharam project, with the goal of documenting and preserving regional traditions that were disappearing rapidly. Our first expedition was to MaramureΘ, where we recorded stories, songs, and rituals from the last keepers of this knowledge.
Over the years, we evolved from a local archive project into an accessible educational platform. We expanded our research to other areas of the country, collaborating with local communities, museum curators, and specialists. Each stage was marked by fascinating discoveries about cultural identity and traditional social structures. Today, Yaharam is a resource for those seeking to understand, not just see, the cultural richness of Romania.
We are dedicated to exploring and preserving regional cultural identity, offering detailed educational resources about traditions, social structures, and intangible heritage.

Authenticity, respect for diversity, documentary rigor, and accessibility. We believe culture is everyone's right.
We are meticulous, passionate, and open-minded. We approach every subject with the curiosity of a researcher and the heart of a storyteller.
We focus on depth, not superficiality. We provide context, analysis, and connections, transforming information into understanding.
Answers to the most common questions about traditions, culture, and regional identity
Regional cultural identity represents the totality of distinctive elements β traditions, customs, dialect, folklore, gastronomy, and social structures β that define a community in a specific geographical area and are passed down from one generation to the next.
We recommend consulting our educational materials, visiting local ethnographic museums, and participating in community cultural events. Also, research through interviews with tradition bearers (the elders of the community).
Traditions provide a framework of continuity and stability, help strengthen social cohesion and the sense of belonging, and serve as a valuable resource for understanding the history and evolution of social structures.
We study structures such as the extended family organization, neighborhood relations (the village community), craft organization by guilds, and how these influence collective identity and the transmission of practical knowledge.
You can contribute by documenting and sharing local stories, learning traditional crafts, actively participating in community rituals, and educating younger generations about the value of these practices.
